Thought That Matters

Keep your train of thought Alive enough To put on ice and repair Ain't it funny how It always comes Accompanied by light despair Though I won't Be around in fall It's the thought that matters after all I'm going down with the ship And must insist You get yourself to safety I'd hate to see you show up When it all erupts Only to re-erase me The light at The end was bright This all happened for a reason, right? Well it's not for lack of trying that These thoughts they come to naught But it won't stop me From falling on These swords with which I fought Well maybe it's the fight in me Will be my purpose yet If I keep forging ahead I can't see living with regret So here's my latest song and dance for you To see just who I claim to be Accompanied by best intentions Proved to be the bulk of what was me But that's all over now I was lost But swear This time I'm found And although I won't be around in fall It's the thought that matters after all

about

This song was recorded from front to back in less than 24 hours, mostly to tape at my brother Kevin Urso’s studio with only traditional acoustic/ electric instruments, no vsts. I played his grand piano, fender bass, I don’t even remember what kind of acoustic guitar, and just sang a whole bunch of vocals through a sexy large diaphragm Neumann mic. Almost all of the takes used were the first ones or damn close-very little overthinking, which is a miracle for me (and I attribute a large part of this to working with Kevin, who just gets me in and out and sets an incredible vibe). I mixed it back at my old spot in Queens and it was really pretty effortless, because we spent the time getting good sounds from the jump. I’m a HUGE fan of daring myself not to overthink and am going to try much more of this going forward. I’m also a huge fan of having one other person, especially someone you trust man the ship while you simply play artist. I’m infinitely grateful to Kevin for being such a great friend and a great engineer.
Big thanks to goes Steve Bach @bachsj (brilliant line art) and Shuvo Das @justshuv (digital brilliance) for tag teaming this uniquely beautiful single art. 🙏🏽
And thanks to Kevin Blackler @blackler_mastering for the master.
HUGE thanks to everyone who continues to believe in me and rock my stuff.

In his music, you'll hear his Romantic era/Jazz sensibilities mixed with four-on-the floor dance grooves, funky key-basslines, analog synth-heavy production, and introspective bordering on self-indulgent lyrics, always coming together with the intention of holding melody to be paramount. ... more
